How to Change a Fuel Injection System
If your Fuel Injection System (FI) is not working properly, it may need to be changed. Follow these steps to change a fuel injection system:
1. Make sure you have all the necessary supplies: new injectors, o-rings, gasoline, engine oil, and a funnel.
2.Remove the gas cap and unscrew the fuel rail cover. Use a funnel to pour about two cans of gasoline into the engine. Be sure to distribute the gasoline evenly across the entire fuel injector area. If you only have one can of gasoline, use half of it in each injector area.
3. Replace the gas rail cover and screw it in place.
4. Replace the oil cap and tighten it with a wrench.
5. Start the engine and let it run until it reaches operating temperature (> or = 212 degrees Fahrenheit). Be careful not to overfill the fuel injector areas with gasoline; this could cause an explosion.
6. Hook a water hose up to the engine cooling fan and let it flow over the top of the engine while it’s running. This will help cool down the engine before you remove the fuel rail cover and injectors.
7. Remove the fuel rail cover and injectors one at a time by prying them off with a flathead screwdriver. Make sure that you hold onto the accompanying o-ring while you remove them!
